The Project

The Developing College Students' Associations project is a programme of work designed to strengthen and support college students’ association development, student engagement and representation within colleges.

This project is funded by the Scottish Funding Council to support NUS Scotland and sparqs to work with colleges and students' associations to implement the Framework and to support the development of student representation in colleges across Scotland.

The project will deliver both local level working with staff members and elected officers at each college to embed the Framework for the Development of Strong and Effective College Students’ Associations.

NUS Scotland was established in 1972, as part of the National Union of Students (NUS), building on 50 years of NUS history and centuries of student representation in Scotland. The NUS Scotland Charity is dedicated to supporting and connecting excellent students' unions in Scotland and across the nations through training, services and networks.

Our development consultants work closely with staff and officers at every college students’ association to deliver development plans created in line with the Framework for Strong and Effective College Students’ Associations in Scotland, as well as working with the funders and the sector more broadly to ensure the project has a long-lasting sustainable legacy.
